Cruel is the Devil King and all powerful, do not anger him. Illogical are his moods and his temperament is volatile.

And he is very, very, very bored. You are his entertainment. Danger.

UCHI NO MAOU KAMIMASEN YO Manga

This is a hilarious, semi mocking tale. Wow.

In a world where you can adopt unusual pets, a family has adopted Satan, Demon Lord. Yup. The final boss, the last obstacle to victory, the darkest hour before dawn.

The pet is everything you think it would be, fond of sweets, protective of it's owners, scared of ... but even as a pet, it is Satan. Picking fights with the Hero pet, launching fireballs, being as evil as the Demon Lord is supposed to be.

Worth the read, check it out.

RPG Manhua

Note the Manhua tag, smile.

O.k artwork but interesting story. Game world exits hero, disillusioned with his friendships. Two years later he returns to universal bad mouthing, his abrupt exit locked the Eastern Continent when he took the only key out of the game.

He forms a new team with girl sword master and boy blacksmith. They fix the flying ship and sail to the locked zone. One hitchhiker hanging from a rope. An old teammate of the hero.

Count D's Petshop

Creepy, haunting tales of dark desires and the price you must pay to fulfill them.

Count D owns a pet shop, full of rare, exotic beasts. No simple pet cat or dog here. But beware, all customers end up satisfied or dead. Is it murder? Or is it a curse?

The detective Leon Orcot thinks Count D is a criminal. Without proof, he cannot make an arrest. So he hangs around the place and gets more involved in the shady business than he ever wanted to.

The writer has a beautifully twisted mind and all her works have a touch of the supernatural, otherworldly poetry to them. Her name is Akino Matsuri and you should read her work.

Hana wa Nisemono

This is so sad. A happy gay couple visit a shrine and make a wish, to stay together forever.

The next morning, one of the boys is a girl. Now they can marry and have kids and live openly. No one else remembers her being a boy. But her boyfriend says " Why are you a girl? "

He no longer desires her. And she begins to dislike his coldness. They were happy and in love, even if they were in hiding. Now, they avoid each other.

A lot of countries pretend gay people don't exist. They call it a disease with need for a torture cure.

If the solution was so simple, if sexuality was a choice, don't you think people would have chosen safety first? You don't choose the body you get, the family you are born in, the sexuality encoded in your DNA. No choice.

God created us all, exactly as we are. If we are flawed, what do you call the Creator? We are not mistakes. Excuse the rant. I feel strongly about stupidity.

Typical jail break with atypical hero.

He's got the luck of the devil himself and now he has a cause to wield it. Mafia small fry until disaster strikes his gang and imprisons four leaders inside the same prison he regularly jailbreaks out for fun.

Orders come from above, get them out and become their boss and new leader of the entire mafia family. What a heady offer for a young trickster.

Really pretty boys for a mafia gang but no one is complaining, plot is strong. Read it. Hell, this is based on a game? Wow, nice.

The Gamer

Manga. what a story you weave! I like.

In this world, there are powered people and normal people. You can evolve. or devolve.

One day, a boy wakes to find his love of games has translated to real life, making his real world a game world. Everyone has power levels and unique titles. He can accept quests and grow his own character attributes. He can absorb any book he touches and know everything in it. When he enters conjured space and kills monsters, he can collect potions and money from their corpses. What he does not realize is his ability is unique and like a cheat skill. And other people with powers have their eyes on him. No more SPOILERS.

The artwork here is good, but not fancy, in color. The plot is strong. Read it.

Shut Hell

Manga, your reputation is redeemed! Mind twister of a genius plot here.

Shut Hell is reincarnation, revenge, war, time travel, unusual bromance, strong female lead, child/youth hero, violent action and strong plot. Dialogue is fantastic. Plus, the artwork is neat, dark and bold, unusual. Also, Gender Bender.

1/2 Prince

Like the wacky gender bending! Grin. Awesome manga.

While you're reading 1/2 Prince, try out the other works by this author, she's got a unique style. Her name is Yu Wo. She writes light novels and manga.

Story - There is this girl who enters a 99% reality game as a boy avatar because her little brother was a nuisance. I know the feeling. Annoying little brat.

But the decision leads to no regret, only great joy. As Prince, she gains power and wins the loyalty of many interesting characters. Prince becomes the most famous legend of the online world. So famous that in real life, they start a search quest for him.

I should be saying this while glitter falls from the sky, dressed in sexy red and looking like Angelina Jolie. In other words, whatever description I give you is utterly lacking. Read it.

xxxHolic & Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle - CLAMP

This is an interconnected universe of alternate worlds with travelling jumpers. I can't talk about one without talking about the other. Check out other stuff by CLAMP.

Quality stuff with the CLAMP stamp, famous for art and plot.

xxxHolic is the world of the Dimension Witch and Granter of Wishes for a Price, Yukio. Note the capitals. Yukio has recently obtained a new slave, for the price of granting him his dearest wish, freedom from the sight - the ability to see the underworld. Spoiler - He will never lose that power but he will grow to accept and learn to wield it.

Tsubasa is the world of royalty with a curse and a quest for a cure, the princess Sakura has lost all her memory feathers and they are a magical plague on whatever land they fly to. ( Inuyasha's Shikon Jewel ? ) She and her childhood friend Syaoran, go to the Dimension Witch, who is entertaining two separate guests at the same time. With her infinite wisdom, the Dimension Witch declares they will travel together. For good or ill.

No more Spoilers because I don't want to ruin the story for you. But expect heartbreak, because every CLAMP tale makes you feel, cut your heart out and save your life with an emotion knife.

This has anime as well, but the manga is infinitely better. Do both.

Bleach

If you know manga, then you know Bleach. There is an anime series and a set of movies, but the manga is without question the best source for story and plot.

The manga's art is unique, the story is written with multi-perspective views, and even the villains' backstories are clearly etched out. You feel for every character, even the ugly ones.

Every character has a secret history that you, as the reader are the only one to know and it is at times, heartbreaking. Sample - Rukia's brother.

The story starts off as simple but gains complexity with every new arc and the characters develop from young immature children to older, more nuanced heroes with ambiguous morality. Murder is not a crime, when you're killing criminals! LOL.

The story is about a young kid named Ichigo who meets a Shinigami - Death God named Rukia. She's injured and there's a Hollow in the house. The soul-devouring monster is really ugly. Ichigo borrows Rukia's Shinigami powers and becomes a Shinigami himself, kills the Hollow, and saves the day. Rukia joins his school and helps him patrol for Hollows while she recovers. Unfortunately or fortunately, he infects his friends with his Shinigami powers and they mutate into humans with spiritual power. Then, the Quincy classmate declares war. And that's just the first 10 chapters. There were 639 when I last looked.

He is a high school girl

OK, I like stories with cross-dressing. Or maybe I love to see the humiliation and cringe-worthy scenes. Hmm, I wonder which is the stronger impulse.

The story is about a boy, gang leader and most feared delinquent with a foster sister (no blood relation). Sister is being bullied badly at school but made her brother swear not to involve himself in her affairs.

He decides to adopt a female persona, join her school and befriend her, and become her secret bodyguard. It sounds foolproof, but you know fools are fatal to the perfect plan.

And what's with the vampire fangs? New art style?

Destroy and revolution

I like heroes who take up impossible dreams and refuse to give up their goals. Even evil ones.

The story here is breath taking, the start is a bit slow but wait and see.

Two guys, at school. One is a repeater with great popularity among students and teachers, a charmer. The other is strange and speaks rarely, avoiding people. For some reason, the popular guy is drawn to the quiet guy. Not a Boys Love story.

The charmer is a psychopath who wants to burn the world but he has no weapon to do it. The loner has a power he calls Oneness - the awareness of all matter that exist being the same, animate or inanimate.

I'm not describing it with justice, it's a frightening power, if everything is one and you know it and can wield that knowledge efficiently, you can teleport and you can move matter back and forth and you can dissolve yourself into matter. O.k, Spoiler territory.

I am addicted to this manga, but warning for slow updates. Scream.

Spirit Migration

Another wacky newcomer! Grin.

In a game world, a soul awakens with no memory. This soul is able to posses the bodies of animals and hop from one body to the next.

When it saves human adventurers in trouble, it gains a name - Kou, and widespread fame. It also gains a jewel that allows it to cross the barrier limiting demons to the dungeon.

It believes that the more time it spends with humans, it will soon be able to remember the past. But is that a good thing or a bad thing for the humans?

Because it can possess humans as well as animals and it lied to the humans about that fact. Holes in human heads, check it out. Correction - Novel says no can do.

Also, this manga is based on an existing novel. Double the fun. Author is Hero Tennki.

Like Doodling

Manga with a manga artist wannabe.

There is this girl who just transferred into a gangster school and she is being horribly bullied. There are two guys who share a mysterious relationship who become interested in her. She draws a BL picture of the two boys. One boy finds it. You know this story, or do you?

Instead of killing her, he asks her to draw on his body. Runes for magic. He's Mabup by name and wizard by profession. He just can't draw very well.

The other boy is also a magician. They are from warring families that practice magic and have a mutual goal of killing each other.

The girl is no longer an innocent bystander.

Phantom School

Another brand new manga that is a hidden gem.

There is this human teacher with a problem medicine can't cure. There is this demon principal who offers him a job in a Phantom school in Hell.

He has to hide the fact he is a human from students and teachers who eat humans. Sounds like the perfect job, right?

Again, chapters are only five. But hang on for the story, this one is full of ideas.

Slime / TENSEI SHITARA SLIME DATTA KEN

Yup, Slime. The first creature you learn to kill in a game. He's the hero of this manga.

An extraordinary slime is born after an ordinary human dies. His soul is reincarnated into the body of a slime with two unique gifts. He meets and becomes family to an imprisoned dragon.

Looks to be a fun ride, only problem is this manga is brand new and has only four chapters. Waiting for updates is a pain. Story is worth the wait.

The translucent semicircle with eyes is the hero. I like the quirk.

Cherry boy, That girl

Ooh, fascinating plot, so there is this couple. Both cute and obsessed with self-beauty, love made in narcissistic heaven.

They switch schools to a mostly boys school. The ratio of boys to girls is 100 to 7. So, the girls are treated as superhuman goddesses. Each girl has a cult following.

Berry gets carried away by a wave of adulation. She swoons under the attention of Pear and decides to break up with Cherry. Note, that Cherry is a guy.

Cherry refuses to let her go and decides to challenge her illusions. He enters the school wearing a wig and skirt. Cross-dressing! Instantly Cherry is a phenomenon and she sways Pear's heart.

Berry and Cherry duke it out. Walnut, Pear's best friend, knows Cherry's secret. Walnut befriends Berry. The name Cherry is using to gain his revenge belongs to a real girl, who finds out the truth.

Anatolia Story / Red River

Manga, contains time travel and an awesome heroine. Well, she starts out timid, but soon grows a spine.

Love the concept of modern person travelling back in time and being clever and resourceful.

The hero is really cute too, so bonus.

Noblesse

This is a webtoon, but you can call it a manga if you want to.

Incomplete, but action packed and full of unforgettable characters.

 I love Rai the most, he's this super powerful creature, ( Spoiler - Original Vampire that keeps other Original Vampires in check, sort of like Trinity Blood but way cooler. ) who flounders while living in the modern world. He has no idea how to open the door of his own house.

Of course - after spending 820 years asleep, who wouldn't be ignorant ? So, Rai joins a school, run by his most faithful follower, Frankenstein and Rai befriends a group of human kids.

Thing is, the monsters in the dark have not been idle these 820 years, and Rai has not fully recovered from the incident that put him to sleep, and a lot of drama is about to start when they discover Rai's empty coffin.

From Eroica with Love

This is a roar out loud laughing comedy manga with lots of plot.

Eroica is a flamboyantly gay art thief, who just happens to be titled British nobility - Lord Dorian Red Gloria. The Major is a very conservative NATO officer, who just happens to be titled German nobility -  Major Klaus Heinz von dem Eberbach. (take notice of who values what title more )

When they cross paths, things go from bad to worse and unless they work together, all their missions will fail. But when they do work together, all their enemies give way.

Unfortunately/fortunately for the Major, Eroica becomes completely obsessed with him and chases him all around the world.

This is unrequited love, but tears are impossible here, too funny to cry.

Bartimaeus Trilogy

Actually is four books called Bartimaeus Sequence, but the newest is a prequel with a different hero.

Love the relationship between the hero and the demon/djinni, yes. Delicious writing and bromantic chemistry.

With every page, their relationship deepens. From the original mutual distrust to the ultimate loyalty, the dialogue is witty, the prose is captivating and the plot is fast paced enough to reel in a white whale. Read it.

Princess Jellyfish

This is a manga and an anime. Now, there is a movie. Big Grin.

The story is very unique. About a bunch of spinsters/ single females / NEET  / unkempt messy disorganized/ women who care not about their looks, presentation, or appearance and live in one mansion. They mistrust and fear beautiful people.

Enter one boy who likes to dress as a girl, mainly to piss off his family but also because he looks damn gorgeous as a girl. He befriends the heroine and makes her the main model for his line of wedding gowns. His brother falls for her pretty face but our boy loves her knowing everything about her.
But it's her choice in the end, and no spoilers you will find here.

Lovely plot, with lots of emotion. Every character has a backstory and personal reasons for their actions. Read it.
